Want to get started with the art of bonsai, but not sure where or how to begin?

Our autumn beginner's course is the perfect way to jump start your bonsai journey.

The series is hosted by our very own Tony Bywater, who has been a member of the Christchurch Bonsai Society since the late ‘70’s and has taught our beginners classes for more than 20 years!

Tony is largely self-taught in bonsai but has learned a lot from workshops with Ben Oki, Tony Bebb, John Hanby, Nobuyuki Kajiwara, Salvatore Liporace, Lee Wilson and Robert Steven.

This series is limited to 15 participants and early registration is essential.

There is a $75 registration cost, which includes:

  • five sessions, including presentations, demonstrations and hands-on workshops

  • two trees for you to work on and progress in the years to come

  • soil, wire, and other materials to aid in your work

  • your set of notes to refer back to
